The story behind the Formation of Spring Back Recycling
After a year of research, financial modeling, and experimentation, the Enactus team partnered with Belmont Church and their Isaiah 58 ministry to enact its model. The Nashville pilot was a huge success because it provided holistic service to its employees and completely recycled thousands of mattresses. Spring Back Recycling is now expanding to other communities across the United States to multiply its impact as the first and only social enterprise that completely recycles mattresses.

2012
Started as a pilot program.
2013
Partnered with Metro Davidson Co. solid waste department.
2014
Surpassed 80,000 mattresses recycled and partnered with Davidson Co Sheriff Department to provide transitional employment to inmates upon release. Several employees worked for us for many years after re-entering society and re-establishing positive relationships with their families. We partnered with multiple halfway houses in Nashville to employ and teach life skills to recovering addicts and alcoholics.
2015
Partnership with the US Army and have recycled over 10,000 mattresses from Fort Campbel base.
2016
Created or own 501 (C)(3) and became a fully self supported Non-Profit organization. While we would love your donations to support our ongoing efforts at buying our own warehouse. We can now operate on our annual budget without seeking outside help.
2017
Partnered with Tennessee Dept of Conservation and Energy.
Currently, we recycle well over 40,000 mattresses per year. In addition, over 3,000,000 pounds of waste are recycled each year, keeping it out of middle Tennessee landfills.
2018
Began our 1st partnership with local retailers to recycle more old mattresses at the point of sale. Today we partner with over 2 dozen retail mattress stores.
2019
Surpassed 250,000 mattresses recycled. That’s over 16,000,000 cubic feet of landfill space.
2020
Began our 1st national partnership with an international mattress manufacturer that has quickly become our largest supplier of used mattresses.
2021
Over 400,000 mattresses recycled. That’s over 26,000,000 cubic feet of landfill space
2022
Partnership with Google, recognized as an impactful non-profit, we now receive ad grants to further our mission. And we couldn’t be more grateful for the support.
2023
We expect to surpass 500,000 mattresses by August; That’s over 33,000,000 cubic feet of landfill space.
